About 50% women and girls in India between 15-19 years of age face period poverty. They still use a cloth during their period according to the National Family Health Survey 5. The world over, women and girls face period poverty or lack access to menstrual hygiene products. In India, some women and girls still use makeshift ‘pads’ stuffed with hay, ash, mud and even husk. Unhygienic practices like these exposes them to several vaginal infections and reproductive health issues, impacting their education and further progress.

Menstruation is one thing which almost every woman has to deal with. Every month, 300 million Indian women and girls do not have access to menstrual hygiene products which force them to use unsafe alternatives.

1. Daily Wash for Freshness
Wash the outside, called the vulva, daily.
Skip douching and let your vagina’s self-cleaning mechanism work inside.

2. pH-Balanced Cleansing
Use special washes designed for your intimate area.
Regular soaps can upset your vagina’s bacterial balance.

Your hands are enough for good personal hygiene.

4. Soft Towels for Drying
Dry with a soft towel after a bath or shower.
Change towels every two to three days.

5. Water Flow Matters
When washing, let water run down, avoiding direct streams into the vagina.

6. Wipe Right
Always wipe from front to back to prevent harmful bacteria transfer.
