Sunita Chaudhari and Rajendra Chaudhari had countless dreams, and they all revolved around the children they would soon have. Both their dreams came crashing when Sunita was rushed into the OT when she was only 28 weeks pregnant. The babies were born extremely premature. Today, the parents wait outside the NICU, praying and hoping that they get to keep this baby, at least.
“When we saw them for the first time, 15 days after they were born, our world crashed…again. Their little body was covered in tubes and tape, unable to breathe on his own. They are going to be two months old soon, and I haven’t once held them in my arms. Why, I haven’t even seen them up close yet.” – Rajendra Chaudahri, father
Born extremely premature, the babies are suffering from a severe case of respiratory distress syndrome. They require at least one more month of NICU care. Without this, they might not survive. Both the newborns and the mother, separated from each other, spend their days crying.
“I haven’t fed him. I haven’t put him to sleep on my lap. I haven’t hugged him or showered him with kisses like most new mothers get to do. It kills me to not be able to have him with me. But if that’s the cost of saving his life, I am ready to put up with months of this separation. All I ask for in return is that they survive. That they come home to us. And that they go on to live a long, happy life…” – Sunita Chaudahri, mother, breaks down.
But the treatment costs 11.2 Lakhs, and the couple is struggling to afford it
“We have waited long time wishing to become parents, and now, we finally are. But I am afraid I might not be able to save them… I have no money left. I don’t want to fail them. Please help me out this one time.” – Sunita Chaudhari, father.
